The Wellspring is an indie folk-pop duo from New York, now based in LA, comprised of Talia Osteen (lyrics/vocals, bass, piano) and Dov Rosenblatt (music/vocals, guitars, piano).
The Wellspring recently scored all original music for the upcoming comedy Coffee Town, written and directed by Brad Copeland and produced by CollegeHumor. Their debut full length record The Girl that Cried Sheep, produced by Eric Rosse (Sara Bareilles, Tori Amos), is due out this year. In March, they will be heading to South by Southwest (SXSW) music and media festival for their debut SXSW peformance.
The duo hit the road for their first national tour in 2011, opening for Pete Yorn and Ben Kweller in over 40 cities across North America from February through April (watch the tour diary videos on YouTube at youtube.com/TheWellspringMusic). The tour promoted their debut self-titled EP, which was produced by Bill Lefler (Dashboard Confessional, Ingrid Michaelson). The EP was dubbed the #1 “Indie Album of the Year” by Examiner.com with the Wellspring one of the “Top Indie Artists to Watch.” Their music has since been featured on FOX’s hit TV series HOUSE, was played on LA's KCRW radio station, and has garnered rave reviews.
Talia and Dov met in New York in 2009 when Dov, then lead singer/songwriter of local band "Fools For April," met with Talia, Vice President at the time of a film production company, about placing his music in their films. Talia fell in love with Dov’s music, and Dov discovered that Talia had sung in a band for years prior to her career in film. Months later, mutual fans of each other, the two decided to take a stab at writing together. Talia sent Dov a torrent of poems. It was these poems that sparked him to write music fervently into the wee hours of morning. It was this music that would inspire her to sing again. Together, they discovered a wellspring of music. Talia quit her job, and the pair spent all their free time writing and recording together in Dov’s home studio.
